My Grampy's Garden

All The President's Gardens

This week, Michelle Obama gathered together a bunch of White House staff and hoed a section of the White House grass to plant a garden. What? The White House is going to grow producepicture_14.png? How cool. The Garden and self sustenance is once again making sense.

When I was young, my Grandfather had a garden that rocked this world. I'm talking plum trees (which he used the fruit of to make his own wine), sweet peas, tomatoes... the harvest was bountiful. He had a green house where he germinated the seeds - it was always warm and smelt earthy.  There were pear trees and apple trees to climb in and a honey suckle bush that was a favorite haunt of the neighborhood humming birds. Not to mention the 'prized' dahilas. Truly a little piece of heaven.

It's nice to see this return to roots. From the limited amount of plants we have raised (mainly balcony tomatoes and a few herbs), the feeling of satisfaction from eating what you have grown is immense. Hats off to those making the effort to bring back the garden -  not only is it good for the environment + the pocket book, It's a good example to set.
